What Inspired Me

      An action film is defined as a film genre in which the protagonist or protagonists are thrust into a series of challenges that typically include violence, extended fighting, physical feats, and frantic chases. Action films tend to have a hero chasing after a villain or chasing after victory. Watching action movies have always made me feel as if I am in the movie itself and all the elements in a movie filled with action keeps me engaged and makes me want to see more.
      To begin, I chose to create a film opening with action as the genre. I have many favorite action movies but my first favorite would have to be Taken, starring Liam Neeson. This movie inspired me to choose this genre because it is a fast paced and thrilling movie with lots of constant action. The famous movie is about a former government operative, who has certain skills that not an ordinary person has. His daughter gets abducted from him while she is away in Paris for vacation. Bryan, the main character, must go through many obstacles to find his daughter. This movie is very action packed. His daughter and himself get very close to death in some situations, which makes the audience engaged in what is happening. The film opens up with home videos of his daughter and wife. This foreshadows the meaning of family in this movie and how far he must go to get his family back together again. The characteristics of an action film are shown in such an excellent way that it inspires me to use the same elements in my film opening.
      The next movie that inspired me to create an action film opening was Rush Hour. Rush Hour is one of three action packed movies and cannot disappoint a fan of action movies. This movie is about a detective named Inspector Lee and an LAPD detective named James Carter who work together to save a Chinese diplomat's daughter. The two detectives do not like each other but become closest of friends in the end. This movie is full of fighting, chasing, violence, and even comedy. I absolutely love this movie and is also considered one of my favorite action films. An action movie has a fast moving plot, and this is exactly what Rush Hour is. I will definitely use it as an inspiration to making my own action film opening.
     While creating my opening, I must keep in mind what exactly is an action movie. It began back in the 1970's with the use of special effects and stunts. Having a challenge in the film is key to keeping the audience engaged. This genre is very closely related to a thriller, mystery, or adventure genre and may also contain elements of spy fiction. Action films are considered one of the most liked films and genres because of the attention-drawing elements in them. I will try to include fight scenes and chase scenes in my film opening, taking inspiration from Taken and Rush Hour. And of course comedic characteristics will be included because it is common to have some comedy in action films.

Week 2 Editing

This week we mostly focused on editing sound and adding sound to what we edited in the first week.  We left only a little non-diegetic sound in the beginning, but added eerie music to the killing scene.  The same transitions are being used, like the black sudden screens, but now we are going to add more film to create quicker transitions.  Our biggest problem this week is our film we gathered. While editing, we realized that the killing scene does not look as real as we wished. So next week we plan to re-film the scene and add a prop, like a big fake knife. This will give the scene more realistic features.  The same video and sound effects are being used. We did not spend as much time editing this week, since we need to focus on more filming, but overall we had a good week of editing.

Week 6 Filming Process

In this shot, we tried to create lighting that seems mysterious to match our  plot. Here we have the hallway leading down to a darkness and a human figure standing in the middle.  In this shot, Donte is shown on the phone calling his other friends when they find the object that belongs to his friend who died there. He tried to look scared to create suspense.  In this last shot, Chris is taking a close up shot of the object left on the ground. Once we start filming the real opening, the object will be a bracelet.  This week did not have many issues, we just need to get the correct props once we finish our rough draft filming. My favorite shot to take was the hallway scene because it creates an eerie feeling for the audience. I am confident in how this opening is going to come together.
